The two wheeled vehicle we know today as the bicycle has seen countless variations over the years. In 1839 a Scottish blacksmith hammered out what was probably the first practical bicycle. What was the purpose of those large front wheels? While fossil fuel problems may signal the end of the internal combustion engine it is doubtful that the bicycle will disappear as long as man has the ability and desire to put his feet on pedals and feel the wind in his face.
