Diamondback Response Sport Mountain Bike (26-Inch Wheels) Reviews

The Response Sport combines the perfect blend of hardtail performance with rugged utility to form the ideal hardtail all-purpose trail bike. The Response Sport is built up around a frame that features our Strongbox top and down tubes and heat-treated 6061 T-6 aluminum. If a solid and reliable hardtail all mountain bike is what you are after, choose the disc brake-equipped Response Sport.
It may seem shocking to some, but there are still several situations where you’re better off on a hardtail than a full-suspension mountain bike, such as when riding to class, dirt jumping, riding on smoother trails, or just cruising around the neighborhood. Enter the Diamondback Response Sport mountain bike, which combines the perfect blend of hardtail performance with rugged utility. The Response Sport–which shares the same frame and several of the components of the pricier Response Comp–is equipped with an aluminum all-mountain hardtail frame with a strongbox top tube, a Spinner Edge 120mm suspension fork, eight-speed trigger shifters, Kenda Klaw XT 2.0 tires, and a WTB Pure V sport saddle. The Response Sport also offers several upgrades from the base-model Response, including an SRAM ISO-Flow crank set with replaceable chain rings, Hayes mechanical disc brakes, and Weinmann double-wall rims.

Manufacturer’s Warranty
Lifetime on the frame, 5 years on the fork, 1 year on components, 1 year on labor for the frame, 30 days on labor for parts

Technical Details

-Hardtail 26-inch mountain bike with aluminum all-mountain frame
-Spinner Edge 120mm suspension fork; 8-speed trigger shifters
-SRAM ISO-Flow crank set with replaceable chain rings; WTB Pure V sport saddle

Customer Reviews

By John C. Nolin
The Diamondback Response Sport is a very good value in a hardtail mountain bike as you are getting a relatively high end frame design with mid range components. The modified top tube design is a strengthen design borrowed from higher end Diamondback models and similar to some Specialized bikes.

The only catch is that the shift levers and front caliper are not up to the same quality as the rest of the package. The platform pedals are OK for around town and park trails, but you may want to upgrade them for serious single track riding.

I combined this with a top quality suspension seatpost which I find to be the optimum combination of lighter weight and control with some softening of the roughest bumps. The Diamondback site and some retailers have a more complete description of which frame size is most appropriate for your height. The advantage of buying from Amazon is that you can readily get XS, S or XL frame sizes rather than having to settle for Medium or Large at a local shop or sporting goods box store.

The bike arrives mostly assembled, but plan to spend a full Saturday afternoon to correctly reset the derailer travel limits and align the front caliper if you do not take it to a local shop for a professional tune up.

bike is really nice for the money. Bought about a year ago for over 500, and it is worth every penny. Frame is super strong, components are definitely entry level, but are very serviceable.

A Signal Hill Hike, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador

4月 30, 2011 · Posted in Hikes · 9 Comments

There is no shortage of hikes to take in St. John’s. One of my favorites is around Signal Hill – the North Head Trail. Before starting our hike we went to the Park’s intrepretive center. There we learned about the many battles between the French and English that have taken place on its rocky slopes. Discovering this history before the hike brought the hill to life for Ronan and Cormac. There is also history related to the Second World War and the defense from U-boats. Great stuff for little boy’s (and my) imagination while hiking. This moderate-difficult 1.7 kilometer hike takes about 90 minutes and gives views of other places to explore like Cape Spear and Fort Amherst. These places are on our list to visit on our next trip to St. John’s.

How To Choose Mountain Bikes For Personal Use

4月 30, 2011 · Posted in Mountain Bike Shop · Comment

How To Choose Mountain Bikes For Personal Use

For those who enjoy long walks in the park and other off road tracks, mountain bikes are the best type of bikes to have on such occasions. This type of bicycles feature bigger and thicker wheels compared to road bikes, which are designed for those who want to go fast and will be riding mostly on paved roads. In terms of weight, mountain bikes are also heavier than road bikes, and are generally sturdier. This is because they are designed for off road use. In line with this, mountain bikes go slower than road bikes, allowing you to enjoy the view of the outdoors more. There are mountain bikes available which come with bike lights, allowing you to ride your bike outside even when it is dark, or when there are not enough lamp posts to light the way.

There are many different mountain bikes from both online and physical stores to choose from. There are different bikes which come in different colours to suit the personal preference of the rider. There are also mountain bikes which come with different accessories, but the most common is a water holder located below the handle bars and above the bike pedals. Here is a closer look at the things you need to consider when it comes to choosing mountain bikes for personal use.

How Big the Bike Is

Compared to road bikes, mountain bikes allow for a more comfortable sitting position. Even so, you still need to choose a bike which is appropriate for your height. Taller people will need bigger bikes, as it allows their arms and legs more space while riding the bike. Naturally, shorter people will need a smaller bike so that their arms and legs can easily reach the handle bars and the foot pedals of the bike. They will also find it a lot easier to navigate and ride the bike if it is in a size appropriate to their height. When you go and choose a bike, it is ideal for you to try out a couple of bikes for size. If you do not have the time to visit a physical store, consider borrowing bicycles from friends or family members until you know what size you have to have, and then you can shop in an online store. The salespeople from bike shops will ask about your height and your needs, and can suggest bikes for you.

How Much You Are Willing To Spend

A good bicycle is almost always never cheap, and this is for a good reason. Great bikes are made with excellent materials and are also well crafted, hence the higher selling price. Think of bicycles as an investment. Plus, it is also a vehicle you will be riding. Therefore, since you will be the one to use it, you should definitely not skimp on the purchase price. It is best to save up for the purchase rather than buy one which you will fit into a small budget. A good quality bike will need fewer repairs and part replacements compared to a cheap one.

Other Bike Accessories

Some bike stores offer mountain bikes for sale which are bundled with accessories. There are some stores wherein a helmet, gloves, shoes, and cycling shorts are sold together with the mountain bike itself. Other accessories include sunglasses or glasses with clear lenses will help keep your eyes free from dirt, bugs, and other things which may be flying around as you pass by. A trail repair kit is also one of the things you will need which will help ensure that you can ride for as long as you like. Cycling shorts and shoes ensure that you will be as comfortable as possible while on the road. These accessories, in addition to a hydration system, are necessary for long trips on your bike.

There are plenty of mountain bike available for sale. You will find a wide array of bicycle to choose from which will suit your height, where you will use it, and any other personal preference of yours. For those who plan to ride their bikes in the evening, consider getting bike lights when you buy your bike. This will ensure that you see where you are going and the people around you will also see you as well.
